Handbook of Christian Apologetics

by Peter Kreeft & Ronald K. Tacelli

Two Boston College philosophers, Peter Kreeft and Fr. Ronald Tacelli, SJ, built this book like a toolkit: organized, compact and made for use. InterVarsity Press calls it concise, witty and wise. That's a publisher's blurb, but it holds up.

The chapters march in logical order. They begin with faith and reason, then the existence of God, laid out in twenty arguments. Then come God's nature, creation and evolution, providence and free will, and miracles. After that, the problem of evil, the reliability of the Bible, the divinity of Christ and the Resurrection. Finally, life after death, heaven and hell, and other religions. Each argument is set out step by step, and common objections get answered on the spot.

It suits inquirers who need intellectual answers before they can pray, skeptics willing to engage, and students of apologetics. Because it's written for all Christians, it doesn't cover distinctively Catholic doctrines in depth, so pair it with Catholic apologetics. Find the question that's bothering you and start there.
