Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Old and New Testaments
by Scott Hahn & Curtis Mitch
It took about a quarter of a century. Book by book, booklet by booklet, Ignatius Press and a team of Catholic scholars worked their way through Scripture. In late 2024 the job was done: the complete Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, Old and New Testaments, in a single volume. Scott Hahn served as general editor, with Curtis Mitch as co-editor.
The text is the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition, a dignified and accurate translation. Around it the editors built a serious study apparatus. Every book gets an introduction and outline. Ignatius lists more than 17,500 footnotes, more than 20 topical essays, over 140 word studies, and dozens of charts and maps. More than 1,700 cross-references link the text to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The notes read the Bible as the Church does, drawing on the Fathers, the magisterium and modern scholarship. They keep pointing out the pattern of foreshadowing and fulfillment that binds the two Testaments together.
It suits inquirers who want a Bible they can grow into, Bible study groups, and catechists who need trustworthy notes at their fingertips. It is big and heavy. That's what the whole Bible plus a library of notes weighs.
